The OSIS sensor was presented at the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) session, 14-18 July 2003. The MEPC session was held at the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) headquarter in London. There were no other NGO organisations allowed to the IMO premises during the meetings – emphasizing the honour of being authorized a prime location next to the conference rooms during the four day session. Great interest was shown in the OSIS sensor system and many delegates were introduced to the concept of Online Environmental Surveillance.

Apart from Europe, special interest in the concept was shown from delegations representing the Gulf Area, the Caribbean Area and African states. Great interest was shown in the unique features of the OSIS sensor and several delegates’ suggested different alternative applications. In particular, the possibility of installing the OSIS system on vessels were asked for by many representatives, giving further support to the development of the sensor concept and associated applications.

Generally, the presentations in Bremen and London have provided OSIS with valuable contacts and confirmed the extensive political focus on online environmental surveillance solutions to protect the marine environment.
