  By: Casper Kvitzau

Best-of-the-Best

The first OSIS sensor for automatic identification, monitoring and quantification oil spills on water surfaces was awarded as Best-of-the-Best EU LIFE project completed in the period 2005-06.

The Award is based on a comprehensive report with an Analysis of the Long-term Benefits of the project and an After-LIFE Communication Plan. The main criteria are based on the evaluation of the degree of Innovation, Environmental Benefits, Long-Term Sustainability, Reproducibility, Transferability and Cooperation.

In 2002, OSIS was chosen to receive funding from the EU LIFE Program among 600-800 applicants. Of the 100 Projects funded only 62 were completed and of these completed projects OSIS was chosen as Best-of-the-Best. An award of which all OSIS employees are very proud.

This Best Projects exercise has followed a lengthy identification and evaluation process based on a set of best practice criteria, developed by EU Member States in collaboration with the European Commission. A best practice can be a technological innovation, a new way of utilising natural resources, a new working method or immaterial ‘tool’ or new ways of collaborating between stakeholders – or some combination of these – that gives positive results for the environment and preferably also for the economy and society at large.
